  • Never underestimate the power of a fangirl’s heart

Today marks the day of how a fangirl heart won’t faint. How it just won’t. How even against your better judgement and series of unfortunate events, a fangirl’s heart just won’t stop until it’s done.

Despite being lost more than once, consecutively taking the wrong train exits, reaching the end of them both but totally missing out THE station, having found out that the reservations made under your name days ago turns out to be bogus, that there’s nothing else you can do about tickets being sold out and you’ll probably end up not watching the only thing you’ve been looking forward to splurge on the year 2012, I dare say never ever underestimate the power of a determined fangirl. I may have failed in the sense that I am still ticketless at this point but my experience throughout it all is definitely worth telling.

At the end of my lost in metro stations drama, as fate would have it, or more like as fate would tease me some more, I went to buy phone credits when the cashier’s phone rang, she answered and I may have eavesdropped there a little but I kind of connected the conversation dots and later confirmed the phone call’s about the same thing I’m in search for - March 9 Sandance Tickets! Turns out the organizers pulled out 50 frickin’ advanced tickets yesterday. YESTERDAY in that same ENOC store. To think I only need 3. And I am one day little too late. Just my luck - not. Our friendly Kabayan cashiers out there helped out poor little me and gave me a contact number of an organizer. Next thing I know, I’m talking to a faceless man named Tim who’s got the sexiest accent in town and surely knows how to deliver a sad news to a desperate person. We can all use a little hope some time, if not all the time.

And now, I’m late for work, in the middle of Dubai, riding the metro for the 3rd time today, reaching nothing, going nowhere. It’s safe to say that I am now deeply considering moving into a new country all by my lonesome self, whether it’s good or bad consideration, I’m not sure yet. Getting lost ain’t a funny thing. But somehow being lost is.

And even if Dubai just handed me out the saddest news in fangirl history since the first Eraserheads Reunion Concert that was eventually cut short, I still managed to pull out some silver linings out of my misfortune. Think strangers, beautiful strangers and skyscrapers. Dubai, you’re forgiven.

Not bad, 25 year old fangirl self, not bad.

PS. Snow Patrol, you better be worth it. Though that’s highly likely cos well, it’s Snow Patrol by the beach with some fireworks on the side in Dubai. How can it not be worth it.

  • Sometimes all you need is a distraction
    A beautiful, welcome distraction
    Too impossible to resist
    Too obvious to go unnoticed
So that when reality starts creeping back
You’re already a step or two ahead
    You’ve already cheated on it
    In your own twisted world
    You were already happy

Since I still cannot decide if I should incorporate my iWritings to my existing lifestyle-fashion-a-day-in-a-life-of-an-atypical-OFW blog: www.thegirlandthecity.blogspot.com, I am going to post them all here first. Besides, what’s a weird world without my weirdness? I know, weird. Right. Spot on. Boom.

alone. in one corner of a cafe just a twenty-minute-walk away from my workplace. don’t ask why. it’s one of the things i just have to do for and with myself. with no apparent or logical reason. i already spent a good half an hour walking around the mall by myself. it has always been therapeutic for me. so now for the second part, a cuppa coffee. for and with myself.

first thing i did was to check my favorite corner, someone beat me to it. there’s already an opened book and a whole pad of paper on the table but no one’s around. what are the odds. there’s an arab lady reading a magazine with a christmas drink in the opposite corner. a couple of lads seated on the area outside plainly chatting. i headed to the counter and my fave barista was there to take my order. i kind of miss giving out my name to have it written on my cup and brag about misspelling it after. it’s not the same here, they call out your coffee as it is: one tall toffee nut latte with extra caramel whip.

the cafe isn’t crowded so it’s not going to be hard shutting the world before me and creating one of my own in 30 minutes. i sat there on the couch, headset on, cuppa joe in one hand, pen on the other, mind elsewhere, i was on my own in every sense of the word. let the anti-socializing begin.

while the term anti-social can be deceiving, don’t let it fool you. because that’s just what happens to me when i choose to shut down the world before me and enter one of my own. it’s where being an anti-social stops being such a negative thought and becomes my twisted definition of alone time. which i just find extra amusing when done in public places, coffee shops, amusement parks, fast food chains, etc. but i did say a twisted definition sooo… there.
